Mountains again. I’ve just entered Yosemite National Park, and in fact am on a hiking trail; it’s marked Old Tioga Road on Google Maps but it’s barely if at all visible in the satellite images (and no, there’s no Street View).

Really, of course, I’m in Syracuse, and it’s winter, off to a more typical start than the preceding several winters. I think in the past week and a half I’ve used the snowblower more than I did in the entirety of last winter. There were about 20 cm (8 inches) in my driveway last Saturday, and smaller snowfalls but still maybe 6–8 cm or so on several days this week. As for temperature, it hasn’t been above freezing since a week ago, and the average wind speed’s been north of 24 km/h (15 MPH) every day except Monday. Altogether not great weather for getting out walking, and I stayed in the first two days of this month (rain on New Year’s, snow and wind on the second), but I’ve since managed to get the average steps up to 10,000 a day, which is where it’s been the previous three Januaries.

December was December. Two km less per day than in November — which isn’t unprecedented. (It was 3 km worse in 2022.) Two bike rides, same as the previous two Decembers — I did get one in on the last weekend — but less average distance than in December 2023.

A map showing my progress is here, a spreadsheet with progress detail is here, and a Google Earth KMZ file is in this Google Drive folder. Present coordinates: 37.845°N, 119.617°W.
